If you’re like me, then the arrival of the holidays is throwing you for a loop! That hamster wheel that revved up in September is kicking into warp drive now. Before things get too crazy and the New Year is upon us (gasp!), let me fill you in on what’s coming up in the REAL Women’s Ministry.
REAL Women’s Christmas Dinner “Silver and Gold” – Friday, December 6. So many of you are already coming and I can hardly wait to see you. This is a great chance to kick off the holidays with some “missional shopping” supporting charities including FEFC Missions (starts at 5pm). We’ve got a couple of new vendors this year including Stella & Dot jewelry and accessories, Village of Hope jewelry from Africa, and Alejandra Ortega greeting cards and jewelry. A few of our favorites will be back as well like Ten Thousand Villages and HOPE Ministries with accessories and art from around the world, and our own TouchGlobal ministry. After getting a head start on our Christmas shopping, we’ll have a catered dinner from Southerns Fine Dining. Our menu includes traditional holiday favorites like roasted pork loin and turkey with cranberries. Yum! Then several of our talented ladies will share their favorite Christmas songs with us followed by a Christmas devotional from Bev Bishop. With all of the decorations and lights and music and fun, you won’t want to miss it – and you’ll want to bring your friends, neighbors, co-workers and family with you! But I have to say tickets are selling out QUICK! We’ve got just a handful left so if you haven’t reserved your seats, do it today at www.fefc.org.
Christmas Radio Christmas Program – Friday and Saturday, December 14 and 15. The FEFC Worship and Fine Arts Ministries are working hard on our annual Christmas program, a fun musical called “Christmas Radio” – you can hear more about it on the upcoming FEFC Connect announcements and emails. The REAL Women’s Ministry is helping out by putting together some hospitality stations in the courtyard following the evening performances. We’re planning some holiday treats to share with each other and the community. We need folks to help prepare our treats, decorate our tables and be gracious hosts and hostesses in the courtyard. If you’d like to be part of our team, please let me know!
REAL Women’s ABF Series “7: an experimental mutiny against excess” starting in January. The REAL Women’s ABF will begin Jen Hatmaker’s study “7” in January. Together we’ll look at seven areas of life and ask God to challenge us to discern what we need versus what we want and what we just have too much of. The seven areas are: food, clothes, possessions, media, waste, spending, and stress. This nine-week series begins on January 5 in CLC 208 at 9:15am on Sunday mornings. There’s no cost for the study guide, but donations are helpful, and Jen Hatmaker’s book “7” will be available for $12.
Precept Winter Study of the Book of James begins January 6: The Precept ministry will take up the book of James with Monday morning and evening classes starting the first week of January. The co-ed study will look at questions such as: What is true faith? How should you live the Christian life? Each verse of this practical study is alive with instructions, admonition, and encouragement. Learn God’s principles for dealing with trials, temptations, the tongue, and the pull of the world. The study is $35 and you can contact Lois Akins for more information and registration.
REAL Women’s Bible Study – Wednesday mornings and evenings: This spring, we’ll tackle two short studies back-to-back. “Gideon: Your weakness. God’s strength” by Priscilla Shirer begins on January 22 with video teaching from Priscilla herself – she is so dynamic and fun! After a short spring break, we’ll take up “Scouting the Divine: my search for God in wine, wool and honey” by Margaret Feinberg on March 19. Margaret spends time with a shepherdess, a vinter, a farmer and a beekeeper to better understand the depth these references in the Bible. What she discovers is a truly passionate and deeply loving message from God to His children. Registration will be open for both of these studies in the New Year.
Brave Women’s Conference: May 2-3, 2014. And speaking of Margaret Feinberg, she will be our keynote speaker for the Brave Women’s Conference here at FEFC this year. I could go on and on all day about the plans already in the works for this city-wide gathering of women. For now, just mark your calendars and check out the Brave Women’s Conference website and blog for more information.
That should get you caught up to speed on our plans so far in the REAL Women’s Ministry. There’s a lot more in the works, but I’ll save that for another post. If you have questions or ideas or want to help out in any of these areas, I’d love to hear from you! Blessings, friends.
